EC Pro: Getting Error message 512 when I run reports
Posted by Joel Brickell, Last modified by Joel Brickell on 14 July 2015 05:08 PM

Issue:  When I go to enter in any of the report sections, Billing, Cost Avoidance, or Setup, I get an error message –  Error 512: Report engine not opened Print Engine<PEOpen Engine>

Solution:  What has happened is that the Crystal Runtime engine, which runs/generates the reports, has been corrupted.  Below are steps to fix the issue.

1. Make sure you have the Pro install file on hand to reinstall EnergyCAP Pro

2. Uninstall Crystal Runtime  - Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs (Windows XP), Programs and Features (Windows 7/VISTA)

A. Search the list of Programs for Crystal XI Runtime

B. Delete this program from the list.

3. Re-install EnergyCAP Pro, Do not install the Local Data Engine this time, only the Windows Client.

Once you have finished the install you need to run EnergyCAP Pro using the initials SYS.  You will need your user number and current validation codes at this point.  After you have entered your user number and validation code and EnergyCAP Pro opens, you can close it and re-open it using your initials.   When you open EnergyCAP Pro this time, you will be opening into the Demo database.  You will need to go to File > Open database and select your database.  Once you are in your database check a report to make sure that this is fixed. If you have any problems, questions, or concerns, please contact EnergyCAP Support by entering in a Support ticket at
