Why do I want to use the ENERGY STAR Submittal Service in EnergyCAP Professional?

The ENERGY STAR submittal service in EnergyCAP Pro enables a user to submit building data to ENERGY STAR through EnergyCAP and obtain a rating. The rating is a comparison of how energy efficient a particular building is compared with similar buildings in the United States. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a set of criteria it requires for a building to have when providing an ENERGY STAR rating. To view the criteria go to http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=eligibility.bus_portfoliomanager_eligibility. The EPA has a free tool on its website called Portfolio Manager (PM), which formulates the ENERGY STAR ratings. The submittal service in EnergyCAP is a beneficial alternative to PM because it saves you the time of entering the building data a second time. The service is included in the annual EnergyCAP Maintenance Agreement (ECMA).

When you submit your buildings to ENERGY STAR for the first time, a PM account will be automatically created. Our Customer Service Department will email you the login information to enable you to have access to the PM account. Please note that due to programming procedures, we are not able to connect a previously existing PM account to EnergyCAP. If you already have a PM account, feel free to keep it until you feel comfortable with the new one or you can delete it immediately. If you continue to keep your building and meter data current in EnergyCAP, your new PM account will be accurate.

There are a few things you can do in your PM account that you cannot do in EnergyCAP, such as enter the date the building was constructed and apply for the ENERGY STAR Label. PM makes it easy for you to track your building's progress, every step of the way. You can find out how to apply on the ENERGY STAR website: http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=business.bus_bldgs.
