EC Enterprise: Template Error Message during Bill Entry

Message: "The template for this bill has changed. Any unsaved data will be lost. Do you wish to continue?"

Message: "The bill start date precedes the effective date of the current bill entry template. You must use Historical bill entry mode to enter this bill in order to use previous templates. To use the current template, you must re-assign the template and select an earlier effective date."

The typical situation is that (1) the account, meter(s) and template(s) are displayed on the bill entry screen and (2) you are attempting to enter a new bill -- usually for a prior time period, i.e. historical bills.

One or more templates for that prior time period are different that what's currently displayed, hence the message. You can check this by exiting the bill entry screen, going to Account Manager, locating the account, and clicking on Bill Entry Templates and G/L Codes. You will probably see that the effective date of a meter's template precedes the bill period dates you were trying to enter. (If not, you probably ALSO received the message shown below.)

To correct, use Bill Entry Templates and G/L Codes. Remove the template from the meter, then add it back but use an earlier effective date.

Note: If a meter has had valid template changes over time and you WANT to use the prior template for a prior bill, then nothing needs to be changed.

Message: "Unable to save bill. The begin date entered is not valid for the template on this bill."

These most often occur when you have created a new template. You gave it a start date that is later than the billing period dates. Since in essence the template did not exist then, it cannot be used.

Solution: To correct this, the best approach is to create a new template with the exact same design as the template in question. Be sure to give it a start date that is early in time. Then, go to Bill Entry Templates and G/L Codes, remove the former template from the meter and assign the new template.
