EC PRO: Problems running reports after aborted install

Issue: User has aborted an EC PRO installation, then reinstalled the program with apparent success. However, errors are generated when trying to run reports.

Solution: Logon to EnergyCAP Professional as normal user and make a backup of the database (File/Backup Database). Two files are copied to the Ecapbak directory on the computer hard drive.

  1. Exit EnergyCAP Professional.
  2. Log back on to EC PRO as user SYS and detach existing DB (File/Detach Database). Exit the EnergyCAP Professional program.
  3. Copy the two backup files from the Ecapbak directory to another secure location for data security.Cut (do not Copy) existing LDF/MDF files from the DATA folder (typically located in either: C:\MSSQL/DATA or C:/Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server/MSSQL.1/MSSQL/DATA) and paste to the computer Desktop.
  4. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the Ecapbak folder and rename the two backup files by removing _BAK from the filename.
  5. Copy the renamed backup files from the Ecapbak folder to the DATA folder accessed previously. 
  6. Login to EnergyCAP Professional as SYS and re-attach your database (File/Attach Database).
  7. Exit EnergyCAP Professional and then Login as a normal user. 
     

This procedure will create a new connection string for the database files.

NOTE: Apparently when the reinstall takes place following an aborted installation, SQLServer winds up referencing a bad address for Crystal Reports executables.
